Return to competition at the WAGR Panoramica 2020

  • 14 December 2020

With the calendar affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, several events have been cancelled which we would have liked to play. But at last, we have been able to enjoy a good high-level competition, even though it is now winter, organized from 11th to 13th December at the Club de Golf Panoramica, in Castellón.

The WAGR Panoramica 2020, scoring for the World Amateur Golf Ranking, has allowed us to reflect on our training sessions. In addition, the Barcelona Golf Academyof Club de Golf Barcelona has been represented in Panoramica by Maxim Danilin, Alejandro de Castro, Joan Panisello, Vladimir Taldykin, Alisa Khokhlova and Valeria Biargé. Other players who are not from the academy, but who accompanied us on the expedition, include: Nano Pujol, Vicente Mestre, Bruno Cami and Daniela Campillo.

There was much concentrated talent, with a hundred amateur players coming especially from Catalonia and the Valencian Community. In the first round on Friday, the first joy was brought to us by Valeria Biargé, carding 72, par for the golf course, and the provisional third position of the women’s competition, while Alisa Khokhlova was placed in the Top-10 with 75. Among the boys Alejandro de Castro stood out, 11th with 72, and Enrico Rissi, 15th with 73.

The second round on Saturday was key, because there were gusts of winds up to 60 km/h that put the players’ skills to test, defining the best. This gave us the recovery of Nina Rissi who, with 71, climbed up to third position, while Alisa Khokhlova scored 77, moving up one place. The male competition was somewhat similar, as Enrico Rissi moved up to fifth place by repeating his 73 of the first day.

In the third and final round on Sunday, an extraordinary Nina Rissi signed a card of 70 shots, thanks to an excellent eagle on the 18th hole that allowed her to finish in the lead with 217 shots, tied with two other rivals, to go to a play-off. On the first hole Nina reach the green in two shots, and had a chance to win the event, but she made three putts. For the second hole, she missed the fairway from the tee and despite a very good putt, her main rival birdied and took the victory.

For his part, Enrico Rissi also recovered his good feelings and found his best game. He was 3 under par, about to reach the top, and although he did a bogey on the 14th hole and a double bogey on the 15th, he still holed the 18th with a birdie, carding a 70 to finish very happily in fifth place.

Go for it! Here’s to the next one!
