This past weekend we completed another expedition of the Barcelona Golf Academy, with a dozen elite players ready to play their best golf at the Mediterranean Golf Championship, a scoring event for the male and female World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The event was held from 2th to 28th June, 2021, in Torremirona Golf, Girona, and the greatest joy was given to us by Alisa Khokhlova, who brought home the victory.
In the women’s competition we had three magnificent fighters. Alisa performed exceptionally, and with three rounds of 73, 69 and 73, for a total of 215 shots, she finished as a great champion. She was the only player of the tournament to finish under par (-1), playing consistenly on par and with up to 13 birdies scored during the three days, seven of them in the second round.
Beside her was our friend Daniela Campillo, who accompanied us on this expedition with a splendid game, tying Alisa’s result in first place after two rounds. So, with 73 and 69, the two partners were tied at the top of the table. It is a pity that in the third round the putting did not work out as she hoped and she dropped to the final third place, with 78 and 220 shots (+4).
Our third player was Valeria Biarge who, after the first two rounds of 80 and 80, on the last day brought out her full potential and with 72, finishing the 11th, with 232 shots (+16).
In the men’s competition there was a very high level and our players didn’t achieve their best results. However, the experience was positive and has helped to regain the rhythm of the competition. In 22nd place we had Alejandro de Castro, with 230 shots (+14) and a best round of 74; Enrico Rissi finished 28th with 233 shots (+17), and two rounds of 77; Joan Panisello was 34th with 236 shots (+20), highlighting 76th in the first round; Maxim Danilin followed him in 35th, with 238 shots (+22), and a good 74 on the first day; and very brave were the brothers Daniil and Vladimir Taldykin, who with their youth dared to take on players older than their age, they finished 50th and 55th, with 257 (+41) and 274 shots (+58), respectively.
Well played team! Now on to the next WAGR!
