The PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona was the backdrop, last weekend, of the PGA Catalunya Amateur Cup by Sergio García Foundation, a new scoring tournament for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) that we had as a fixture in our summer calendar. And it was well worth taking a break from holidays to compete at the highest amateur level because, in addition to living a great experience, we got a great result: the runner-up in the women’s category was Daniela Campillo (left).
From August 20 to 22, 2021, the PGA Catalunya Resort Stadium course hosted this three-round tournament in the Individual Medal Play mode, played under the intense heat typical of summertime, but on a golf course in spectacular condition.
Among the players in the men’s category, from the Barcelona Golf Academy, were Erik Shukhart in 8th place, with great consistency in his rounds (76, 74, 75 and 225 shots); Alejandro de Castro, who finished in a good 12th place (76, 77, 77 and 230 shots); his brother Juan de Castro, who maintained a good rhythm in the first two rounds (82, 83, 87 and 252 shots), to finish 47th; Bruno Martí who was 52nd (80, 87, 90 and 257 shots); and Jon Juliá who was 60th (88, 96, 86 and 270 shots), out of a total of 80 players.
As for the women’s competition, Daniela Campillo stood out by always staying among the top places, to finish achieving a meritorious runner-up. With rounds of 74, 72 and 75 shots, her total was 221 (+8), just one shot more than the winner. Her outstanding performance included nine birdies, three in each round, which show her talent in one of the best golf courses in Spain.
Congratulations to all. May the holidays end well. See you soon!
