The Club Golf d’Aro Mas Nou hosted the Catalonia Championship 2021 for the U-16 and U-18 categories from 27th to 29th August, and we attended with a new expedition from the Barcelona Golf Academy. Our group of players fought there with their best game, proving to be among the most outstanding Boy / Girl and Cadet players in Catalonia in 2021, with the best result coming from Daniela Campillo, who was declared runner-up in the Under-16 category.
The three intense days of competition, bathed by the typical summer heat, required the maximum concentration from the participants. This is a beautiful but always demanding course on the Costa Brava, 300 meters above sea level, in perfect condition.
In the women’s competition, our recent incorporation Daniela Campillo showed her magnificent golf once again, especially in the second round, signing 77, 72 and 78 cards to end with 227 shots. She finished in the third overall position, behind Natalia Herrera and Alexandra Vidal, but she gained the second place in the U-16 category, to take home another well-deserved trophy. In the same competition, Laia Llorens tied for 19th place overall, being the 15th Under-16, with 275 shots.
Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Alejandro de Castro was the best classified in the U-18 category, but since there were two U-16 rivals who finished ahead of him, he had to settle for 3rd overall, behind Marcel Fonseca and Joan Panisello, which left him without a trophy. His first round of 84 strokes was a shame, because with the next 70 – in fact, the best score of the entire men’s tournament – and 71, he added a total of 225 shots, five behind the winner, showing that he was at the level to win the championship.
From here we especially congratulate Joan Panisello, trained in the BGA for the last four years, and the best ranked player of the Club de Golf Barcelona, who won the runner-up championship of Catalonia Boy and Sub-16 in a brilliant way, with 223 shots. Vladimir Taldykin, like Alex, was hampered by a weak round (79, 93 and 77), which distanced him from the top positions, finishing 25th with 249 shots.
Those who proved to be the bravest were the BGA Infantil players, without fear of facing a golf course that instills so much respect, nor of playing with the elders. Jan Farré qualified 22nd overall and was third among the Infantil players with 247 shots. Along with him were Daniil Taldykin, 29th overall and fifth Infantil with 252 shots; Juan de Castro, 32nd overall and sixth Infantil with 255 shots; and Jon Juliá, 34th overall and seventh Infantil with 266 shots.
A round of applause for everyone for the event, already looking ahead to the start of the next season. We are ready to go in September!
