The third edition of the Barcelona International Golf Cup WAGR was held from the 30 th of September to the 2nd of October at the Club de Golf Barcelona with a success of participation, highlighting that more than half of the players came from the local club.
The expectation was high, since it is a reference event in Catalonia, after the success of previous editions. In addition, it was eligible for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), as well as for the Grand Prix of the Federació Catalana de Golf (Boys and Girls) for the 2022 season. It was played in the 54-hole Medal Play Scratch mode on consecutive days.
In the men’s category, Erik Shukhart, a player from the Barcelona Golf Academy, dominated the tournament from the beginning till the end. He started Friday with a round of 72 strokes; then he was able to overcome himself on Saturday with a fantastic round of 68 strokes, the best scorecard of the tournament; and he finished off the job with another 72; winnig with a total of 212 strokes, and six ahead, repeating the same title that he already won in 2021.
It is worth mentioning the 4th final position of Juan de Castro (228), and within the Top-20 they were 6th Ignacio Berea (233), 8th Xavier Rosell (237), 10th Matteo Sasdelli (239) , 12th Alex Company (243), 13th Bruno Martí (245), 15th Kamran Hababou (247), 16th José Ricardo Aguilar (248), 17th Amaury Ledain (249), and 20th Dylan Richardson (268 ).
In the Boys Category the first was also Erik Shukhart, while in the Cadete Category the winner was Juan de Castro, followed by Ignacio Berea.
Finally, in the women’s category, Valeria Biarge ended second with three rounds of 78, 77 and 79, for a total of 234 strokes. Valeria had the victory in her hand, because a bogey on the last hole would be enough for her to win. But she made a double bogey and had to go to play-off, where she was overtaken by Alexandra Vidal, from Can Cuyas. In 3rd position was Daniela Bellido (235), and 9th Laia Llorens (256). And we don’t forget that in the Girls Category, the winner was Daniela Bellido, followed by Laia Llorens.
The trophy ceremy was a great party, in which we were able to clap all the winners of the event, and especially ours.
Congratulations to all, and until next year’s edition!
