One of the most important events at the beginning of the season, the PGE Spanish Junior Challenge held from October 20 to 23 at Empordà Golf, has come to a close with four brilliant trophies for our boys and girls of the Barcelona Golf Academy.
Our applause for Daniela Campillo, champion of the general Girls leaderboard; Valeria Biarge, champion of the Girls +23 category; José Ricardo Aguilar, champion in Boys U-18; and Ignacio Berea, third in the Boys Sub-14 category.
This is another scoring international tournament for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), organized by Pro Golf Events, which has filled with excitement all the participating junior golfers, who came from all over Europe, as they played their best golf in the elite competition. And our expedition couldn’t be more proud, with all the players progressing well and some of them rising to the top.
In the Girls category, Daniela Campillo came out like a shot, starting with a 70 (-1) in second position. And in the following days she improved dramatically, with a 69 (-2) and a 67 (-4), for a total of 206 strokes. Her dominance was overwhelming, distancing 9 shots from the second classified. She booked an eagle (at 18thhole in the second round), 11 birdies and only 4 bogeys and a double bogey. Fantastic! Along with her, Valeria Biarge also shone, with rounds of 74, 75 and 72 ending with 221 strokes (+8), fourth global and winner at the Girls +23 category.
Daniela has started her last year at the Academy of the Club de Golf Barcelona in a sensational way, (which will end in July 2023 – before going to the US), displaying a great game. It’s the result of her hard work at the Academy for the last three years, with already three WAGR wins this season.
And in the male competition, we celebrate the victory of Ricky Aguilar in the Boys U-18 category, who was able to comeback from his initial 76 (+5) with two rounds of 72 (+1) and a magnificent 68 (-3), to domine with a total of 216 strokes (+3), also coming second in the global leaderboard. Completing the podium of cups at the Barcelona Golf Academy was Ignacio Berea, third in Boys U-14, who recovered from an initial 82 with two solid rounds of 73 and 75 to conclude with a total of 230 (+17).
In the Boys competition we were also represented by Amaury Ledain, Bruno Martí, Matteo Sasdelli, Xavier Rosell, Valdimir Egorov, Bruno Castro and Jorge de Asis Rojas.
From Emporà Golf we have shown ourselves to be a very united team of motivated golfers, with a mix of more experienced players and new players who have started the season with great enthusiasm at the Barcelona Golf Academy.
Brilliant!
