The 2022 Women’s Individual Spanish Championship, ‘IV Emma Villacieros Memorial’, was held from 2nd to 4th of June at the Club de Golf Ulzama, in Navarra, and the Barcelona Golf Academy of the Club de Golf Barcelona was represented there by two of our best players, Nina Rissi (just arrived from Michigan State University) and Valeria Biarge.
The 120 most competitive golfers in Spain were playing for the absolute national women’s title, so they had to play very well to beat the golf course and be among the best. Although Nina and Valeria had no chance of victory, they did fight like lionesses, and their final positions of 24th and 36th, respectively, included very good feelings.
In the first round Valeria (picture 1) came out superbly, and with 4 birdies and 5 bogeys, her card of 73 shots placed her in 8th position. Nina (picture 2) only added a birdie and with small errors she went to 48th place, with 78 shots. In the second round, Nina reacted with two birdies and 12 pars, and with a card of 74 shots she climbed 26 positions, up to 22nd place. Valeria, with problems on holes 5 and 11, did not have a good day and with 84 shots she fell to 60th position.
As a sign of her strength, Valeria returned more focused to the third round and with 3 birdies and 2 bogeys, she achieved a spectacular scorecard of 71 shots, the sixth best of the day, recovering 24 positions. For her part, Nina was able to maintain her regularity with 76 shots, ending both tied for 26th place.
On Sunday, Nina maintained her level of play and with 2 birdies and 4 bogeys, she finished with 74 and 302 shots (+14), climbing to a good 24th position. Instead, Valeria only achieved a birdie and with 80, she signed a total of 308 shots (+20), finishing in a meritorious 36th place. Congratulations to the champion, Paula Martí, with 283 shots (-5).
Nina and Valeria, the Barcelona Golf Academy is proud of you.
