We have returned more than satisfied from our expedition to Aravell Golf & Country Club, where we went to play the 1st Andorra FGA JM Lara Series from March 18 to 20, an event scoring for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). This is an attractive tournament for us because, in addition to visiting a course that we don’t usually play, it has been organized by the Federació de Golf d’Andorra (FGA) with a splendid host, the European Tour winner and golf broadcaster Jose Manuel Lara.
With six players from the Barcelona Golf Academy on the tee, it soon became apparent who the finest players were on the Lleida golf course, with Maxim Danilin leading the way in the first round, delivering a magnificent card of 70 shots. Nikolay Barrios was third with 75 shots, one behind the Andorran Ramon Armengol. They were followed by our Amaury Ledain seventh (79), Bruno Martí ninth (81) and Vladimir Taldykin tenth (83).
In the second round Maxim Danilim continued in front, and with a 72 he was separated by ten shots from his main rivals. The fight for second place was exciting with a quadruple tie between our Amaury Ledain, who made his best golf round (73) and Nikolay Barrios (77), together with the Andorrans David Esteve (75) and Ramon Armengol (78).
Finally, in the third and final round, Maxim Danilin kept up his good level and, with 74, won the competition from start to finish, with 216 shots, eleven ahead of the two second-placed players. Nikolay Barrios and Ramon Armengol, both finished with 75 shots and tied with a total of 227 strokes. Amaury Ledain finished in 5th position, with 78 and 230 strokes. Special congratulations should be given to Bruno Martí, who delivered the best scorecard of the day, with 72, rising from 11th to 6th position, with a total of 234 shots. Good work also from the Taldykin brothers, with Vladimir finishing 11th with 241 shots, and Daniil 16th with his best round (87) and 280 shots.
Congratulations to all, and see you at the next WAGR!
