This has been a week of strong emotions for our students at the Barcelona Golf Academy, as they have participated in a competition at the highest international level, the PGE Spanish Junior Championship. Three rounds on the demanding Stadium Course of the PGA Catalunya Resort, in Girona, in a scoring tournament for the WAGR, EGR and JGS Rankings.
Framed in the Global Junior Golf Tour calendar, this event was one of our great incentives this autumn, showing that the Club de Golf Barcelona’s academy remains the best representation of Catalonia in yet another tournament, contributing with the largest number of players. Not only in a group, but also in competitiveness, thanks to Erik Shukhart‘s second place in the male category and Valeria Biarge‘s first in the female category.
Although there was a forecast of rain, there was only a light shower and the weather was quite good, with a course in excellent condition. Erik Shukhart started among the leaders, fourth with a first day of 73, including an eagle on the 15th hole, then went to second with a great 70 and one under par. The challenge was to beat the Dutch player Thom Lindssen, which was not difficult, but then an inspired Pole Nikolas Tyminski took the lead.
After a double bogey in the 9th, Erik reacted and kept his chances of winning, with four birdies and a bogey in the second nine holes, which left him two shots behind of the winner, and within the par. He was very close because he finished the 18th very well with a birdie, but in the end it couldn’t be.
For her part, Valeria Biarge played phenomenally well dominating the course and the women’s competition with ease. With rounds of 73, 76 and 74 shots, and a total of 12 birdies, she achieved the triumph of the category and the fifth place overall, with +7.
We’d like to highlight the good result of Maxim Danilin, who finished the eighth with +9; Bruno Martí, the 21st with very good rounds, playing very consistently; and Vladimir ‘Vova’ Egorov, debuting in a competition in Spain for the BGA, coming from Siberia, in the 32nd place. Finally, we regret the incident of the disqualification of Nikolay Barrios, who got lost and arrived late to the tee off… you learn from everything!
In addition, the BGA expedition enjoyed the magnificent accommodation at the Hotel Camiral and the fantastic facilities of the PGA Catalunya Resort.
A pleasure. We are on fire!
