From January 27th to 29th, 2023, we attended the 2023 Peralada Championship (WAGR) with great success. This is a scoring event for the R&A and USGA World Amateur Golf Ranking, and for the Federacio Catalana de Golf 2023 Grand Prix Rankings. And it was successful not only because Club de Golf Barcelona contributed the most players to the event, but also because Erik Shukhart and Daniela Campillo brought the first two victories of the year to the Barcelona Golf Academy.
In the men’s category, Erik Shukhart started very well and in the first round he was placed first with 76 shots, under pressure from Pablo García Terol (77) and Mikhail Efremov (78). But Erik was not going to have it easy and in the second round Mikhail took the lead with a great 72 and four strokes ahead. The second best round of the day was played by our Ricky Aguilar (74), who climbed a number of places.
However, on Sunday Erik Shukhart went out in great shap, delivering a sublime round of 66 (8 birdies and 3 bogeys), winning the course by a long way and disarming his opponents completely. With Carles-Xavier Batalla as caddie, Erik was already tied with Mikhail half way through, ending the last nine holes by 5 under par. With a total of 220 strokes, he was proclaimed the Men’s Scratch champion, with a five stroke lead. The final performance of Ricky Aguilar was magnificent, improving his previous round with a 73 and classifing in third place.
The last round of Alexander Company was also splendid, with a 75 taking him to the Top-10 with 247 strokes. And good play in the event by the rest of the team, with Kamran Hababou the 15th with 261 strokes; Amaury Ledain the 17th with 264 strokes; Gerard Guinart the 20th with 272 strokes; and Vladimir Egorov the 22nd with 299 hits.
In the female category, Daniela Campillo started on Friday sending her drive out of bounds, suffering an 8 at the hole 1. This didn’t affect her and thanks to hard work she took the lead with a good 76, just one shot ahead of her training partner Laia Llorens (77). But over the weekend our 2022 Under-18 Catalonia champion shone with talent as she finished the tournament with rounds of 72 and 73 shots. She dominated the competition from start to finish, proclaiming herself the Women’s Scratch and Girls Medalplay champion with a total of 221 strokes, with an impressive advantage of 11 strokes over the second classified.
The Barcelona Golf Academy completed its participation with Laia Llorens, the 6th with 242 strokes, and Valeria Biarge, the 7th with 246 strokes.
Despite the wind and cold in Peralada, well played players. On fire!
