The Women’s Catalunya Cup, a scoring event for the World Amateur Ranking (WAGR) was held over three days, from March 24 to 26, 2023, at the Club de Golf Barcelona. All the best amateur players in Spain attended, and among them, the Barcelona Golf Academy had two participants: Daniela Campillo and Laia Llorens, who came with great enthusiasm to play on their golf course and enjoy the support of their public (family, friends and coaches).
Daniela Campillo was the best Catalan golfer on the first day, signing a scorecard of 72 shots, with two birdies and two bogeys, which placed her in fourth position, three shots behind the leader, Rocío Tejedo (69), from Blume National School.
She then managed to advance positions in the second round and, with a scorecard of 74 shots including a birdie and three bogeys, she rose to the second place (146). She was then the closest rival to Tejedo, who continued to be intractable, distancing herself in the lead with a round of 70 shots (139). Laia Llorens could not keep up and, with rounds of 87 and 96 (183), she didn’t make the cut.
Finally, Sunday sealed the impressive victory of Rocío Tejedo, who proved to be the best and most deserving of the trophy, finishing with a round of 77, for a total of 216 shots, the par of the golf course. It was a difficult day for many of the players, who in general saw their number of shots increase throughout the course. One of them was Danila Campillo, star player of the BGA and looking towards her future at the University of Louisiana Monroe next year. However, she could not maintain the second place from which she started and for which she fought.
Despite a round of 85, mainly due to a poor run on the last nine holes, Daniela gave everyone a great lesson in attitude and knowing how to be on a golf course. With a total of 231 shots (+15), she finished classified in an equally outstanding sixth final position.
A great competition for everyone, without a doubt!
