Loyal to the annual event of the Men’s Barcelona Championship, from February 3rd to 6th, 2022, we went to the Real Club de Golf El Prat to compete in this key event that brings together the best players on the Spanish amateur scene, as it counts towards the Absolute National Ranking and Under-18 2022.
Barcelona Golf Academy started out with three members in its team, configured by Alejandro de Castro, Erik Shukhart and Maxim Danilin, seeking to pass the cut on the third day, and then to finish as high as possible in the leaderboard, with the 72 holes Stroke Play Scratch in a 90 player draw.
Erik was the most successful in the first round with 79 shots, for the 86 shots of both Alex and Maxim. In the second round Alex regained his confidence and began to be more regular scoring pars, to finish with 74 shots; meanwhile Erik repeated 79 shots and Maxim improved to 80 shots.
In the third round, Alex’s recovery was confirmed, delivering the third best card of the day at El Prat, with 70 shots (-2), the result of four birdies and two bogeys. For his part, Erik continued to push and scored a good card of 77 shots, while Maxim scored 83 shots and couldn’t make the cut of the Top-45.
Then in the fourth and last round of the championship, Alex maintained his good level of play and with a 74 shots he finished in 13th position in the global classification with a total of 304 shots (+16). That means if he hadn’t had a bad first day, he could have easily cracked the Top-5. Erik signed an 82 card that gave him a total of 317 shots (+29), finishing in 40th position.
By categories, Alex de Castro also finished 11th in the Boy classification. Our congratulations to Jaime Montojo, from Madrid, for his victory with 283 shots (-5).
So proud of you guys!
