Qualifying for the National Youth Final of the Golf Leagues 2021 was not easy, but Leo Oliver and Marc Escayola got there, and they went to Alicante with great enthusiasm and full of merit as standard bearers of the Barcelona Golf Academy of the Club de Golf Barcelona.
On December 6th and 7th, the La Sella Golf Club and the Denia Marriott La Sella Hotel brought together the best Benjamin, Alevin, Infantil, Sub18 and Sub21, boys and girls, from the leagues around Spain, to play on the famous course designed by José María Olazábal, and fight for the champion’s trophy and the numerous awards from the sponsors.
On the first of the two exciting days, after playing the Junior Finals, the juniors enjoyed a series of games directed by Dino Ferrer, PGA professional and teacher of La Sella, and the new Golf Range Virtual digital system; and the second day the Family Final was played, where parents and children enjoyed themselves in a complicated course, to end with a massive awards ceremony.
Our great joy came from Leo Oliver, who became champion of the Benjamin Scratch male category with 43 shots, and also came fourth in Handicap with 18 points. On top of that, he was the best in the short game contest for Benjamins, male and female, winning an Anser Ping putter.
As a Scratch winner, Leo has managed to access the Champion of Champions to be held from July 26th to 28th, 2022 at the Lough Erne Golf Resort, in Northern Ireland. It is a World Championship for juniors, of an invitational nature, reserved for the Scratch winners of a ranking competition by country, in the case of Spain, the Golf Leagues. Without any doubt this is a tremendous prize for Leo. Congratulations, champion!
Marc Escayola also did very well, qualifying seventh in the Male Alevín category in Handicap, with 32 points, and 16th in Scratch with 112 shots.
Congratulations to the organizers of the Golf Leagues for the huge success of the event. We look forward to the 2022 edition!
