Last Sunday 23rd of October and, from now on, one Sunday a month, the Junior Golf Tour 2022/23 is played at the Club de Golf Barcelona. This is a junior tour promoted by the Barcelona Golf Academy which, importantly, is open to participants from other clubs.
The objective is to offer events, on the one hand, as a first step to introduce beginners to the world of competition; and on the other, to encourage juniors when they do not have official or federative competitions, in order to learn to play under pressure!
The next dates for the Junior Golf Tour will be the 20th of November and the 4th of December. When the calendar of federative competitions and WAGR events are known, the following appointments of the tour in 2023 will be announced.
The Junior Golf Tour rules only require a valid federation license and to be less than 25 years old, with the open choice of playing 9 or 18 holes and choice of the tee bars (compensated by handicap). The tournaments are played in the Stableford Individual mode indistinct in three categories.
For the First Category (Handicap Inferior) and the Second Category (Handicap Superior) they can choose to play 18-hole or 9-hole; and those in the Third Category they can play the 9-hole of the Executive course or also can choose the 18-hole of the Masía course; with the added option of the Benjamin Category indistinct for those under 10 years of age.
By the end of the season 9 events will have been played, of which the best 6 will score. Participating golfers enter a ranking that is established by the points they earn playing in the monthly events, and with those points they will aspire to win the prizes at the end of the tour. There will be trophies for the top two finishers in each category, and many other prizes that will be very attractive ‘surprises’. For players from other clubs who win, they will get a 50% training day at the BGA academy.
In the first event played last Sunday, in the Superior Handicap Category, Mert Gungor won with 46 points; with a considerable advantage over the second classified, Anis Hababou and Nicolas Quixano with 39 points; one point more than Iker Figa, who was fourth.
In the Lower Handicap Category, Jon Julià was the winner with 46 points, followed by Jan Farré with 40 points, while in third place Dylan Richardson, Jordi Vila and Álvaro de Castro finished tied on 36 points.
And in the 9 Hole Category the winner was Carlos Bellido, with 17 points, ahead of Celia Moreno, second with 16 points, and her sister Rosa Moreno and María Gordillo, the two third tied with 15 points.
