The Anderson University men’s golf team, where Alejandro de Castro is playing coming from at the Barcelona Golf Academy, has won its third consecutive title in a row, with the Mizuno Intercollegiate, the Cougar Invitational, and now the Camden Collegiate, played at the Camden Country Club.
For the first time since the 2003-04 season, the Trojans team has won three titles in one season and, as if that were not enough, all three wins have been consecutive. The Trojans prevailed by a comfortable 13-shot margin over runner-up Shorter.
“I’m really proud of our guys,” said Danny Neal, the team’s coach. “They shot a final round 277 to win their third straight tournament. This one was a little different in that we had to come from behind to secure the win. I believe that experience will build the guys’ confidence and very well may help us down the road.”
“My college career with the Trojans has officially started and I couldn’t be happier,” said Alex de Castro.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better start either, capturing three team wins in our first three events! Couldn’t be more proud of the team we’re forming and in such little time. None of this would have been possible without the support from my family, Barcelona Golf Academy, Carlos Vivas and Sophie Rousseau coaches, and Nick of College Sports America. Trojans… let’s ride!”
In the case of Alex, our player scored his best round of the year. Freshman Alex (72-73-67, for a total of 216) matched the tournament’s lowest second round with a third-round 67, his best yet, and vaulted 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for seventh place.
Now he and his team have a couple of weeks off before competing in the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational, the final tournament of the fall season, which they will host.
Absolutely great!
