It could not be. Daniela Campillo‘s hopes of achieving a good classification in the Under-18 Women’s Spanish Championship, from March 17 to 20, could not be fulfilled. Our player from the Barcelona Golf Academy went to the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid full of enthusiasm, after having been proclaimed champion of Catalonia Under-18 a few weeks ago. And although the results weren’t what she hoped, we know that Daniela fought to get as high as possible in the leaderboard.
The best Under-18 players from all over Spain met in Madrid, with a total of 120 golfers. The first round did not go well for her, and with an 86 Daniela lost all options to fight for the title. She had to come back from 62nd place and she did so, very well, on Friday with 75 (35th) and on Saturday with 74 (25th). That got her comfortably through the cut, to try to continue climbing in the last round on Sunday.
She needed to play another low round to qualify for the Top-15 but again came out poorly, and she finished with an unremarkable round of 80 shots. In the end she finished in 29th place with a total of 315 strokes. But it is worth looking ahead, as there are plenty of events to go, and Daniela Campillo has a promising future in golf.
We congratulate the Catalan Anna Cañadó for her magnificent victory, beating in the play-off to the Madrid-born Andrea Revuelta, as they ended up tied at 286 shots.
