The 2nd Barcelona International Golf Cup has been an important event for the pupils of the Barcelona Golf Academy. Contesting the second edition in their own club, they were able to feel what it is to compete at home, on their training course, so their responsibility, if possible, was even greater than on other occasions, due to the desire to achieve a good result.
The three-day competition, 22nd, 23rd and 24th of October, brought together 65 of the best Catalan amateur players, men and women, fighting to win a tournament that was also scoring for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), as well as the Grand Prix of Catalonia. The three days had splendid sun, on a course in excellent condition, during which a very high level of golf was seen.
Once again, we stand out as the club that contributes the largest number of players participating in the events for the Catalan ranking. Thus, almost twenty players from the Club de Golf Barcelona took part in the tournament, but they did not find it easy, due to the quality of players coming from other clubs, attracted by the prestige of an international event like this. From the first round, it was clear that the men’s event was going to be a duel between Pablo García Terol, from the Club de Golf Vallromanes, and our Erik Shukhart, from the Club de Golf Barcelona.
Pablo was beating Erik by two shots after the first two rounds, with 70 and 73, by 71 and 74. But on Sunday Erik reacted and with a magnificent 72, he got ahead of Pablo by a shot, to win the championship by 217 to 218. Also noteworthy are the results of Maxim Danilin, 11th with 236 shots; Alejandro de Castro, the 15th with 238 shots; Jon Juliá, 24th with 246 shots; Vladimir Taldykin, 26th with 249 shots; Jan Farré, 29th with 252 shots; and Juan de Castro, 30th with 253 shots.
In the women’s event, we celebrate a magnificent result for our Daniela Campillo, 2nd classified with 237 shots. She could do nothing in front of the great round of the winner on the last day, Alexandra Vidal from Can Cuyas Golf who, with a card of 73 shots, reached a total of 227. Good results were also achieved by Valeria Biarge, 4th with 244 shots; Daniela Bellido, 6th with 253 shots; and Laia Llorens, 11th with 286 shots.
Congratulations Erik, for debuting in your first win at the WAGR!
