Organized by the Federación Balear de Golf, this week we participated in the 2021 Men’s Copa Baleares, held from 5th to 8th of December at Arabella Golf’s Son Muntaner, one of the best golf courses in Mallorca. This is one of the most deeply-rooted amateur events in the national golf calendar, scoring for the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) in addition to the Absolute and U-18 National Rankings, which brings together the best players of the moment from all over Spain, and some internationally, including Boys and Cadets categories.
Alejandro de Castro and Maxim Danilin traveled there, included among those admitted in a list limited to the best 85 registered players, in a high-level competition. The prestigious Copa Baleares, won by Jon Rahm in its first edition (2011), was played over four rounds (72 holes Stroke Play), and the first round served for them to take the measure of the course, with 86 and 79 shots respectively, in strong wind conditions.
From the second day Alex began his spectacular comeback, and with rounds of 73, 76 and a fighting 72, he rose to 29th place tied at 307 shots, 20 behind the winner, Madrid’s Alejandro Aguilera. Maxim made the cut, with 80 and 79, which allowed him to play the last day and improve his result with 78, for a total of 316 shots and the 50th position.
