A very interesting event was the one we played from the 10th to the 12th of March 2023 at Golf Panorámica. Seven players from the Barcelona Golf Academy embarked towards Castellon to live the adventure of the WAGR Uppsala 2023 Tournament. A little on the way to the unknown, but being a regular scorer for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) in Panorámica, playing it was worth it.
Despite playing next to the Mediterranean, the atmosphere was very Nordic, with more than 50 internationally ranked young talents competing. Uppsala is a city in Sweden, near Stockholm, which has a public school, institute / high school, with access to golf next to its facilities. A field that is also public, and has a large academy that serves as a Swedish quarry thanks to the large number of pupils it has.
Well, ours faced about thirty players from this school in Uppsala, who have been doing a two or three week stage in Spain to continue their preparation, as it is very cold in Sweden at this time of year.
The Swedish winner with 216 shots, Nils Svanberg, has a -5 handicap and is within the Top-200 WAGR; that is, among the 200 best in in the world amateur ranking. In addition, he has already won the Sergio García Junior Championship and the GTT Finale-Sweden Invitational in the stage they did in 2022.
Stimulated by the good weather, the Swedes played at a good level. Those who started with the best game from the Club de Golf Barcelona were Erik Shukhart, José Ricardo Aguilar and Matteo Sasdelli. With first rounds of 74, 75 and 76 shots they placed 10th, 12th and 15th respectively. In the second round Erik signed a card of 76 shots and maintained his options from the 6th place, only 5 shots behind the leader. While Ricky, with a 79, remained in 12th place.
And in the third round we were not so lucky. Erik Shukhart achieved our best finish with a 78 card and finished eighth tied, 11 shots behind the winner. Also teaming up with him were Ricky Aguilar (26th), Amaury Ledain (28th), Matteo Sasdelli (32nd), Jorge de Asis Rojas (38th), Bruno Castro (39th) and Vladimir Egorov (40th), supported by coaches Daniel García and Carlos Vivas.
Congratulations to everyone!
