Our expedition to Tarragona to play at the Infinitum Costa Daurada Trophy, from 23rd to 25th of July, could not have gone better. We came back with a great victory by Alejandro de Castro, four Top-10s and a large participation, with more than a dozen players guided by the Barcelona Golf Academy of the Club de Golf Barcelona.
The event was the last of our summer route through the tournaments scoring for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), and the best debut in the world lists has been achieved by our player Alejandro de Castro, who is in top shape.
He showed great play on the demanding Lakes course of Infinitum Golf, formerly Lumine Golf, on hot days but on a golf course in excellent condition, in tough competition with Alejandro Cogollo, as at the end of the three rounds both were the best, tied at 1 under par. Although in order to go out to the playoff, left-handed De Castro had to make a very exciting birdie putt on the 18th hole, with dazzling ability to perform in moments of maximum tension. They then faced two holes of playoff and again Alex birdied on the second attempt, to win the tournament at Scratch, and achieve his new status as a WAGR player.
Enrico Rissi also played very well, surpassing each day with rounds of 77, 75 and 74, to finish 6th with +10. And Maxim Danilin, in 16th place, who after signing the best card of the entire second round, with a fantastic -1, didn’t feel well on Sunday and managed to play 82, for a total of +15. Behind him was Erik Shukhart, 20th with +16.
Special mention for Vladimir Taldykin, for achieving his personal record in the sum of three rounds, with a total of 169 shots (77, 81, 77), and +19, which placed him 24th Scratch, and 4th in Handicap, which is why he received a well-deserved trophy. An applause for the rest of our players in the male event: 28th Joan Panisello (+25); 32º Tomás Junquera (+32); 34th Marc Llorens (+42); 38th Daniil Taldykin (+50); and 40º Juan de Castro (+56).
In the female event, our champion of Catalonia 2020, Alisa Khokhlova, completed the podium, coming 3rd with +7. And the big surprise was given to us by Nina Rissi. After her surgery, four months of golf inactivity without playing tournaments, she bravely signed up for this Infinitum Costa Daurada Trophy. Without having played any practice rounds and a first day of 81 shots, her golf began to emerge and shone with par in the second round, and with +1 in the third, to finish in a great 4th position (+10). Finally, Laia Llorens, who also played a very good tournament, was 11th (+11) in Scratch and 4th in Handicap.
Among the friends who accompanied us on this expedition, without being part of the academy, we highlight Daniela Campillo, with one of her best performances of the year, finishing 2nd with 221 shots (+5), after being leader in the first round, tied at -2. Along with her we add Vicente Mestre, 10th with +13; Bruno Camí, 21st with +17; and Eudald Teule, 30º (+28) in the men’s event.
Congratulations to all, have a great summer, and full on with golf.
