Last Sunday, 15th of January, the fourth event of the Junior Golf Tour was held at the Club de Golf Barcelona, with a record of participation in the 2022/23 season. About thirty juniors signed up to play golf on a cold winter morning. However, just as the players went out onto the golf course, the sun came out reaching 15ºC, bringing ideal conditions to enjoy the competition. Towards the end of the day it was overcast and the last groups ended up with light rain.
This time we had entries of players from other clubs, as the Junior Golf Tour is played one Sunday a month and the tour is open to all players under 25 with a license (not just those from the host club). The tour seeks to prepare juniors under and including the age of 25 for the pressure of competition in official and federative tournaments.
In the 9-Hole Handicap Category, the winner was Gabriel de Souza, with 21 points, ahead of Celia Moreno, with 19 points, and Gustav Gillen, with 15 points. Leading the provisional ranking is Carlos Bellido, with 65 points.
In the 18-hole Lower Handicap Category, it is worth highlighting the participation of Alejandro de Castro, who was one of the stars of the Barcelona Golf Academy last year, and is visiting from Anderson University in the US. Alex finished with an impressive Scratch result of 60 shots (-8). In this category Bruno Castro won with 42 points, followed by Alex de Castro (playing with handicap -7 by difficulty value of the course) with 37 points, finishing third tied Alex Company and Jordi Vila (CG Sant Cugat) with 36 points. Jon Juliá leads the provisional ranking with 127 points.
And in the Superior Handicap Category the winner was Alex Marcos with a round of 44 points; second was Erik Gillen with 42 points; and third place was Nil Aiguade with 40 points. In the first position of the provisional ranking is Mert Gungor with 121 points.
