Barcelona Golf Academy has once again responded to the call of Global Junior Golf with a good group of young players, who traveled to PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness, in Girona, to compete at the highest international level against golfers from all over Europe.
The PGE Spanish Junior Championship 2022, a scoring event for the WAGR, EGR and JGS Rankings, was held from February 18th to 20th on the demanding Stadium Course. This was an event of 54 holes, individual stroke play, with a very professional organization over three rounds, limited to players, girls and boys, in categories under 21 and under 18 years old.
Once again, the academy of Club de Golf Barcelona was leading the bigger representation of Catalonia, providing a total of seven players, including the champion of the women’s category: Valeria Biarge.
Valeria developed a very solid game throughout the tournament, with the joy of her 8 birdies, scoring three rounds of 76, 76 and 77 shots. With a total of 229 shots (+13), she was in 8th place in the general leaderboard, being the first in the female category. This is a notable victory, since Valeria has been the champion of the same event twice in a row, as she won at the previous edition held in November last year, also at PGA Catalunya Golf.
In the men’s competition, our best-ranked representative was the Frenchman Amaury Ledain, coming from Italy, who finished in the Top-10 with rounds of 80, 76 and 79. With a total of 235 shots (+19), including 5 birdies, he was 10th, 15 shots behind the winner, the Swiss Niclas Wiktor.
Fighting to finish as high as possible, Nikolay Barrios and Maxim Danilin were tied at the 14th position. Nikolay scored rounds of 79, 85 and 78, with 6 birdies, much better than in 2021; and Maxim signed rounds of 84, 79 and 79, with 2 birdies; finishing both with a total of 242 shots (+26). Our participation was completed by Bruno Martí, who finished 20th, one position better than in 2021; Alexander Company, the 30th; and Vladimir ‘Vova’ Egorov, 32nd.
Without a doubt, a great success for Valeria and a great experience for everyone.
